Call A Cab

Today on one of our local radio stations one of the DJ's was discussing her weekend. She said that she went to the Reds game and then afterward went out for a few drinks with some friends. About midnight her and another girlfriend decided to call it a night and went outside, and being the responsible adults they were, they grabbed a cab. About a 1/4 mile from her house she seen the lights of a cruiser behind them.

They cabbie pulled over and he then proceeded to tell her and her friend that there may be a little problem. When the police officer came to the car the cab driver could not produce his driver's license. Okay, he makes his living from driving a cab...and he doesn't carry his driver's license? He gave the officer his name and other identification and when the officer goes back to run his info, the cabbie gets on his cell phone and calls someone, telling them..."I may need you to come and bail me out."

The DJ, who by this time was thinking a practical joke was being played on her soon realizes it is not a joke when the cabbie tells her that there is a small warrant for him. Small warrant? As opposed to a big one?

When the police officer returns to the cab he arrests the cabbie for driving under suspension! A cab Driver driving under suspension? Don't they check these drivers out. Fortunately for the local DJ, she got a ride home from another police officer and a free cab fare, but it really makes you wonder just how safe are the cab drivers?

Next time your out and need a ride home, it may be better to just call mom to come and get you. Just make sure she has her driver's licence...

Another Goodbye

My best friend, Silver had to say goodbye to his father today. After a brief illness and complications from surgery his father passed early this morning. Yesterday they had to make the decision to turn off the life support that had been sustaining him the past few days.

I can not even begin to imagine his pain and loss. I've lost my grandparents, as has DJ just recently, but a parent? His father was two years younger than my own father, and 66 is not that old in this day in time. I hurt for him, but I also don't know what to say or how to comfort. All I can do is just be there in the upcoming weeks when he needs me. He had to tell his own son today. How does one do that? I can not even begin to understand. Thankfully he and his father reconciled some time ago after a falling out. Today he just told me to tell my parents how much I love them. Which I did. I even went over and spent the evening with them.

I hurt for you Silver, and hope the next few days are as painless as they can be. And when it is all over just remember the good times and also remember that there are good friends here to help you through.

What's the Reason For it All?

A very dear friend of mine, (who will remain nameless) had jewelery stolen from her apartment. Apparently her latest friend (with benefits) turned out to be a thief (among other things). She has not had the best of luck with boyfriends or husbands, but that is a story for her own blog.
She reported the items to the police as stolen and gave a police report. Makes sense... During the questioning they asked her the race of the thief, which makes sense if they wanted a description to hopefully apprehend this guy and return her jewelery, if he hadn't already sold it for drug money. But then...
they asked her race...

That did not make sense to me. What does it matter what race she is. Irregardless if she was white, black, red, or green she was a victim of a crime. Her race has nothing whatsoever to do with her predicament or it would not make any difference, or shouldn't anyway, to the police regarding her stolen items. My question about this was, do they put her report on the bottom of the pile if she were African American? And if she were Caucasian does it go to the top of the list? What if she was of Oriental descent, or Middle Eastern? What if she were Mexican? I see no reason as to why this was an important issue for the police unless your race has something to do with how they respond...

Chances are my friend will not recover her stolen items, and they will never really be able to say he was the actual one that stole the items without the items or other evidence, but what does race have to do with all that??? Can someone please answer me that question?

A New Toy

I got a new toy today...

Now before your mind goes to the gutter, it is a blood glucose meter.

It's actually quite interesting. It takes my test results (after I poke myself with this needle that is triggered in a nice "pricking" mechanism) and places them in a category, before meal, after meal so on and so forth. It also comes with a port that I can attach to my computer and send my results right to the doctor's office!! Technology is amazing isn't it?

So I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes today. Yeah, I got a bit depressed, but to be honest I'm glad I know, now I can treat it and hopefully start feeling better. None of the symptoms or problems I have been having over the past few months have been due to my MS, but instead are diabetic related.

When I arrived at the doctor's office they took my blood glucose and it was 310. 100 is where they would like for it to be. So the doctor came in, I gave him the low-down about my diet, my family history and then he began to tell me his treatment. Which consists right now of two medications, one that I take with breakfast (yes, I am going to have to start eating breakfast, bummer huh?) and another I take after meals, before dinner. He says I should start seeing and feeling results within a few days.

I also have to take my blood glucose test periodically throughout the day, first thing in the morning before I eat, then one hour after meals and then before bed. This will give him an idea of where I am at, and how to better treat me.

All in all, I think I can deal with this. I mean I've dealt with MS for 16 years, and I know that now I have diabetes, so now I can change my eating and exercise habits to try and help myself. Or do nothing and wind up shortening my life expectancy. Which do I want? Dumb question huh?

So begins another chapter in my life. Stay tuned, I'm sure it's going to get better. Especially once I get my sugar under control, the doctor wants to work on me quitting smoking!!

Preventative Medicine

Today was like any other Monday. I got up got my shower, dressed and headed out to work. About 20 minutes into my 40 minute commute I started having sharp abdominal pains. I figured it was just gas, and went on it to work. By 8:30 the sharp abdominal pains turned into full blow pain. I drank so water, lots of water, went to the bathroom and the pain began to subside. Then I tried to eat lunch and the pains increased to the point I couldn't walk or sit.

My attorney finally convinced me that I needed to leave and get to the doctor. After 8 hours in the Er I found the culprit, well they found the culprit. I still have the bacterial infection that I finished my antibiotics for on Sunday. I had a CT Scan, blood work and gave a urine sample. Afterwards I was given antibiotics intravenously. They also found out that my glucose level was pretty high in my urine sample, so another blood test was done and my sugar was at 286!

They diagnosed me with onset diabetes and informed me I need to see my family doctor immediately. Other than going to the doctor for my annual MS tests I do not go to the doctor. In the last three years I think I've been six maybe two days at the most. This year already has turned into a medical nightmare.

The ER doctor told me that if I would have at least an annual visit to a general practitioner they could have found the problem with the diabetes much sooner, I guess a lot can be said for preventative medicine.

So I will follow up tomorrow with a GP and see what lies ahead for me regarding my sugar. Hopefully they have found it soon enough and I can take something by mouth to keep it in check. Life is full of surprises, isn't it?

A First

My grand-daughter, Alana turned one today. She is such a good baby, and she is a very happy little girl too. We traveled to Mt.Zion, Kentucky to celebrate her first year of life. All my kids were there, along with my grandson, Rylan and my parents. It was a great day, and everyone had fun. Even if we did have to take the scenic route to get to my daughter's house due to work on the interstate.

A Bit Depressed

August 1st, already! WOW, where has the summer gone, where has this YEAR gone? My dad always told me that as you get older time goes faster, I thought he was crazy then, but now I understand. On July 29 J2, my third child turned 17 years old. It seems like just yesterday...God that sounds so chiche'...you get the point.

Today was not a good day, was sick the entire day, stayed home from work, where I really needed to be as I am swamped with work. If I had went in I'm sure most of my day would have been spent in the bathroom. I have some kind of bacterial infection. Sounds disgusting doesn't it? Nothing antibiotics can't take care of I'm sure.

Now I sit here at 10:00 p.m., alone again. Yes, DJ is off, as he was last night but he is at his grandparents putting in their new washer and dryer. Tomorrow he will be at his other grandfather's house, and I will be here alone again. Sounding a little down you say? Yes, I am but oh well, I'm needy or depressed, not sure which. I did shave off my goatee.

I guess I'll just go to bed and start all over again tomorrow.

Four Generations

Spent a little bit of time yesterday with my youngest grandchild, Lizzie. She doesn't look very comfortable in this picture, but she wa...
